In S1E12, Rory is reading “The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath” and Dean asks her, “Is there anything in there about me?” Rory responds, “I don’t know. Your name wouldn’t be ‘lithium,’ would it?”

Sylvia Plath was an American poet and novelist most famous for her novel “The Bell Jar.” After dealing with depression and suicide attempts for many years, she died from suicide in 1963.

Lithium is a mood-stabilizing drug that was starting to be used in the 1940’s and 50’s, during Plath’s lifetime.
